The Minnesota Gopher men's basketball team received some good news on Wednesday as transfer Liam Robbins has been granted an eligibility waiver from the NCAA and will be eligible to play in the 2020-21 season.

Robbins is a seven-foot center that is coming over after two strong seasons at Drake. A native of Davenport, Iowa, Robbins averaged 14.1 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game while being named to the All-Missouri Valley Conference team and earned All-defense honors.

Robbins should help soften the blow of losing Daniel Oturu, who declared for the NBA Draft back in April. Even with Oturu's departure, the Gophers have plenty of talent returning including Marcus Carr, who declared for the draft but opted to return to Minnesota for his junior season.

The Gophers are also waiting to hear from the NCAA about the status of Both Gach, who is transferring to the Gophers after a pair of strong seasons at Utah. The 6-foot-6 guard and Austin, Minn. native is hoping to be eligible immediately as he returns to play at home during the pandemic.
