Gophers wildcat QB Seth Green announces decision to transfer
Minnesota Golden Gophers wildcat quarterback Seth Green announced on Thursday that he will enter the NCAA transfer portal. The announcement came on his Twitter account, which thanked coach P.J. Fleck and his teammates.
"After many thoughts, prayers and trusted conversations, I have made the decision to enter the transfer portal and play my last season elsewhere," Green said. "I am saddened that this chapter of my life is coming to a close, yet am excited for what God has in store for my future."
Green's career has been everywhere as he starred at East Ridge High School in Woodbury before playing his final season at Allen High School in Texas. As a three-star quarterback, Allen committed to Oregon before transferring to Minnesota in 2016.
Green was converted from quarterback to tight end, before becoming the Gophers' wildcat quarterback in 2018.
In 33 games with the Gophers, Green rushed for 15 touchdowns in the Gophers' "Green Line" package. With Green on the field in short-yardage situations, Green will look for a school willing to use him more as a receiver.
Green will earn his Master's degree this spring and due to the pandemic has an extra year of eligibility. Under graduate transfer rules, Green will be eligible to play immediately at his new school.
