Fun fact: Dryden McKay has not been drafted by an NHL team and will be up for grabs once his college hockey career at Minnesota State-Mankato is over after Saturday's national championship game against Denver.

McKay, 24, was the named the 2022 Hobey Baker Award winner. The superstar goalie has put the Mavericks on his back this season, leading them to the Frozen Four and the national championship game for a second consecutive season.

The Mavs lost in the Frozen Four last year, so Saturday's 7 p.m. game against Denver is their first appearance in the national championship game.

McKay's 37 wins this season are an NCAA record and his 1.28 goals-against average is second in the nation, while his save percentage (.934) is third in the country. His 34 college shutouts are the most in Division I men's hockey history.

McKay made 16 saves to back a dominate Mankato blue line in a 5-1 Frozen Four victory over the Minnesota Gophers on Thursday night.

McKay won the Hobey Baker after being a finalist for the award last year. Mike Hastings, the head coach at MSU-Mankato, has won the Spencer Penrose Coach of the Year Award each fo the last two years.

The other finalists for the award for Minnesota forward Ben Meyers and Denver forward Bobby Brink, who played high school hockey at Minnetonka.
