The top high school basketball player in Minnesota's Class of 2024, Bloomington Jefferson's Daniel Freitag, announced Friday that he will play college basketball at Wisconsin.

The Minnesota Gopher's were in Freitag's top five along with the Badgers, Notre Dame, Baylor, and Virginia. But he's the latest in a long line of top Minnesota boys basketball recruits to cross the border to rival Wisconsin.

Rivals ranks Freitag as the 60th best recruit in the country, while 247Sports has him ranked No. 90. The second-ranked player in Minnesota in 2024 is Isaac Asuma, of Cherry High School, and he is committed to the Gophers. Ranked third is Lakeville North's Jack Robison, who is also going to Wisconsin.

The 6-foot-2 guard will play his senior year of high school basketball at Southern California Academy before joining the Badgers.

Freitag averaged 28.8 points, 9.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.1 steals per game in the 2022-23 season for Bloomington Jefferson. He's also a standout football player, though it appears that he'll focus on basketball in college.
