Price cuts for 75 percent of Gopher hockey season tickets
University of Minnesota Athletics announced Thursday that more than 75 percent of all men's hockey season tickets are being reduced in price.
Basically, tickets will drop $100 or $200 depending on which zone they're in: Club level, Zone 1, Zone 2, Zone 3 and Zone 4. Here are the price changes:
Zone 1: $200 cheaper, from $1,000 in 2019-20 to $800 in 2020-21.
Zone 2: $200 cheaper, from $900 in 2019-20 to $700 in 2020-21.
Zone 3: $100 cheaper, from $700 in 2019-20 to $600 in 2020-21.
Zone 4: No change. $500.
Club level: $200 cheaper, from $1,500/$1,200 in 2019-20 to $1,300/$1,000 in 2020-21.
The price drop is a direct result of dropping the per-seat scholarship donation. For example, the scholarship donation for Zone 1 was $500 for 2019-20 season tickets and is being lowered to $300 next season.
To be clear: $300 of the $800 season-ticket price for 2020-21 is the scholarship donation.
"We feel this season ticket pricing adjustment will serve both of those groups and help us provide an exciting atmosphere at 3M Arena at Mariucci," said U of M Director of Athletics Mark Coyle.
"Over the last three years, we've stressed how important winning our fans back is to the athletic department. We've listened to feedback from season ticket holders and those conversations have influenced many of the new fan experience initiatives and opportunities that we provide to season ticket holders."
Attendance is up slightly this season compared to the year before, but still down from earlier seasons. Average home attendance (announced crowds):
- 2015-16: 9,849
- 2016-17: 9,595
- 2017-18: 8,726
- 2018-19: 7,944
- 2019-20: 8,231
Minnesota wraps up the regular season this Friday-Saturday against Michigan.
