Washington State two-sport athlete Jack Wilson transfers to Gophers
Pull up Jack Wilson's bio on the Washington State men's basketball website and you'll see him listed as a 6-foot-11 center. That's a normal height for a big man in college basketball, but what pops out on his bio page is his weight at 325 pounds.
But he's a 325-pound man whose size helped land him a scholarship to play football at Oregon State. As a senior graduate transfer, Wilson will be eligible to play right away for Ben Johnson and the Gophers, though cracking the lineup might be difficult considering Wilson played a total of just 40 minutes at Washington State this past season.
"Jack is a strong, physical player who fits the Big Ten and its style of play," Johnson said in a release. "He's a willing worker, loves to compete and is a good athlete. Over the course of his career, he's been around some great programs and understands what it takes to be successful. We're excited to have Jack join the team and look forward to working with him."
He's listed at 315 pounds in the release from the Gophers.
A native of San Mateo, California, Wilson was a four-star basketball recruit out of high school when he committed to Oregon State. He played there one year before transferring to Idaho, where he stayed two seasons before moving on to Washington State.
At Washington State, he was a member of the football team from 2020-22. He played mostly on special teams, appearing in 25 games at left or right tackle.
