10 semifinalists revealed for Minnesota’s Ms. Hockey Award
Let’s Play Hockey announced the 10 semifinalists for the Ms. Hockey Award — given to the top senior girls hockey player in Minnesota — on Monday.
The semifinalists are Lindzi Avar (Minnetonka), Chloe Boreen (Hill-Murray), Addie Bowlby (Lakeville North), Kendra Distad (Minnetonka), Hannah Halverson (Edina), Kate Kosobud (Moorhead), Ilsa Lindaman (Duluth Marshall), Ayla Puppe (Northfield), Bella Shipley (Maple Grove) and Josie St. Martin (Stillwater).
Ms. Hockey candidates are selected based on nominations by their coaches before five finalists, and eventually the winner, are selected by a panel of college women’s coaches in Minnesota as well as high school coaches.
The criteria for the award include academics, community/extra curriculars, citizenship, coachability and performance.
All the finalists are forwards except for Kosobud, a defenseman. Here’s a look at their points totals, according to stats provided by Let’s Play Hockey:
- Avar, 49 points (21 goals, 28 assists)
- Boreen, 50 points (28 goals, 22 assists)
- Bowlby, 66 points (45 goals, 21 assists)
- Distad, 39 points (17 goals, 22 assists)
- Halverson, 48 points (25 goals, 23 assists)
- Kosobud, 36 points (10 goals, 26 assists)
- Lindaman, 86 points (57 goals, 29 assists)
- Puppe, 107 points (59 goals, 48 assists)
- Shipley, 46 points (22 goals, 24 assists)
- St. Martin, 60 points (26 goals, 34 assists).
The 10 semifinalists will be whittled down to five finalists to be announced on Friday. The winner will be announced at the Ms. Hockey Banquet on Feb. 25, and the Jori Jones Award will also be announced at the banquet.
