Here's one that nobody saw coming. Anthony Edwards is changing his jersey number with the Minnesota Timberwolves from No. 1 to 5.

"I'm switching from No. 1 to No. 5 this year. It should be fun," Edwards told NBA insider Shams Charania on Stadium TV. "Five has always been number. High school, college, AAU. It's always been a number that I always wanted. I tried to get it when I got drafted, I just couldn't. My teammate had it. Opportunity presented itself this year and I took it."

Malik Beasley wore No. 5 during Edwards's first two seasons in the NBA in 2020-21 and 2021-22. Kyle Anderson wore No. 5 last season. As it turns out, Anderson prefers No. 1 and Edwards prefers No. 5, so they're switching.

"We was just waiting for the right time," said Edwards. "Kyle likes No. 1 anyway so he can have 1 and I'm going to take 5."
