Timberwolves fans who bought tickets to see Jimmy Butler and the Miami Heat will not get that chance Saturday night as Butler will sit out the game to rest, according to Heat insider Ira Winderman.

Butler played 34 minutes in Miami’s 119-111 loss to the Boston Celtics on Friday night and he played 34 minutes in the Heat’s season opener against Detroit on Wednesday.

Butler missed both games against Minnesota last season due to knee and ankle injuries. He also missed their last of two meetings during the 2021-22 season because of a toe issue. He did play in Miami’s game in Minneapolis on Nov. 24, 2021.

The NBA’s new rest rules stipulate that only one star player can be rested for a game and teams are urged to rest players for home games so fans in away cities can see star players in action.
