Are the Minnesota Timberwolves behind only the NBA champs the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference?

After a couple of stutters to start the season, the Wolves have been scintillating in ending the unbeaten records of both the Nuggets and the Boston Celtics, and currently sit in third place in the West behind only Denver and the Dallas Mavericks.

The current standings sparked a discussion on NBA Today over which team ranks behind the Nuggets in the West this season, and while Brian Windhorst opted for the Phoenix Suns, Kendrick Perkins is all in on the Timberwolves so far.

"On NBA Today I don't have to live in the past and I don't have to live in the future, I'm living in the now, the Timberwolves are standing on business right now, led by Anthony Edwards, so if you're asking me today who's the second best team behind the Nuggets I'm going with the Minnesota Timberwolves," Perkins said.

"What I'm looking at what the kid McDaniels is bringing on both sides of the floor, Anthony Edwards is going to make, he's an All-NBA player this season I believe that, and he's going to finish in the Top 4 of the MVP vote," he continued.

"And Rudy Gobert, people can say what they want he's been balling out, anchoring that defense, finishing around the basket, grabbing rebounds, and look Naz Reid, when he comes in off that bench, the spark, the offensive explosion that he brings, the rebounds and the tenacity, I tell you I'm rocking with these Timberwolves."

Even Windhorst got caught up in Perkins' enthusiasm, picking out another Wolves contributor that didn't get a mention (no, it's not KAT).

"One more, Mike Conley, 30 assists, one turnover so far this season ... 30 to 1, that's pretty good. Chris Paul is like 'I'm pretty good but I'm not 30 to 1,'" he said.
