Report: Chauncey Billups among finalists for Wolves president of basketball operations job
A week and change into the Timberwolves' search for a president of basketball operations has yielded finalists for the job.
According to Shams Charania and Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic, there are at least four finalists for the job, including former Wolves point guard and current ESPN analyst Chauncey Billups.
Three others reported to be finalists are Nuggets Assistant General Manager Calvin Booth, Clippers General Manager Michael Winger and Rockets Vice President Gersson Rosas.
Minnesota has been without a president of basketball operations since Tom Thibodeau was fired in January.
Billups signed with the Wolves in 2000 and spent two seasons at Target Center before leaving as a free agent to sign with the Detroit Pistons in the summer of 2002. He went on to earn the nickname "Mr. Big Shot" by helping lead the Pistons to a championship in 2004.
Last July, after speculation that he would be hired as a front office executive for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Billups said it's his goal to lead a team to a championship.
"My desire is to one day run a team, be in a front office and try to build a champion," Billups said, via ESPN. "I know that I will, and I know I'm going to do a good job. When that opportunity presents itself, and it's a good opportunity, I'll be ready to go."
