Report: Timberwolves get backup point guard in Shake Milton
A new backup point guard option for the Timberwolves appears to be Shake Milton, who is signing a free-agent contract with Minnesota, according ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.
Milton, 26, averaged 8.4 points, 2.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 76 games with the Philadelphia 76ers last season. He shot 47.9% overall and 37.8% from 3-point range, making 56 of 148 attempts from 3 last season.
The NBA's free agency tampering period began at 5 p.m. CT Friday. Minnesota has reportedly also agreed to deals with small forward Troy Brown, who spent last season with the Lakers, and Nickeil Alexander-Walker, who was traded to Minnesota as part of the D'Angelo Russell/Russell Westbrook blockbuster in February.
Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic is reporting that Milton's deal is two years for $10 million, Brown's deal is two years for $8 million and Alexander-Walker's agreement is for two years and $9 million.
Milton had a six-game stretch in late November last season when he scored averaging 23.1 points per game (139 points total). It was part of a stretch where he started eight straight games for the 76ers.
Mike Conley is the starting point guard for the Timberwolves, so it'll be Milton and presumably Jordan McLaughlin battling for backup minutes. According to KSTP-TV's Darren Wolfson, Minnesota is expected to guarantee McLaughlin's $2.3 million deal for next season.
