The Minnesota Timberwolves have been drawn in a group that contains the Golden State Warriors for the first round of the inaugural NBA In-season Tournament.

The tournament, which will start on Nov. 3 and end with a championship game on Dec. 9, sees teams drawn randomly into groups of five from their conference. Each team plays their four group opponents – two at home, two on the road – with eight teams advancing to the knockout rounds.

The Timberwolves have been drawn into West Group C group with:

  • Golden State Warriors
  • Sacramento Kings
  • Oklahoma City Thunder
  • San Antonio Spurs

The six group winners and the two teams with the best records will proceed to the knockout rounds, with the final two competing for a "prize pool and the new In-Season Tournament trophy, the NBA Cup."

Group Play games will be played on "Tournament Nights," which will take place every Tuesday and Friday from Nov. 3-28 (with the exception of Election Day on Nov. 7). The only NBA games played on Tournament Nights will be Group Play games.

The games will count towards each team's overall NBA regular season record, with teams that don't make it to the knockout rounds having two make-up games added.

The only game that doesn't count towards the regular season is the championship round.
