Towns setting more records as Wolves season winds to an end
The Minnesota Timberwolves knew Karl-Anthony Towns was going to be special when they drafted him with the first overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft.
But as his second season in the league draws to a close, no one really expected so much so quickly from the 21-year-old big man.
Towns has been setting new career marks for the Wolves and on Wednesday night he became the first player in NBA history to score 2,000 points, grab 1,000 rebounds and knock down 100 three-pointers in the same season.
It was the second major accomplishment of the night for Towns, who only moments earlier became the youngest player in league history to go for 2,000 and 1,000 – and the first to do it since Tim Duncan in 2001-02.
Tuesday night, he set the Timberwolves record for most points in a single season. He averaged 28.4 points and 13 rebounds per game for Minnesota, but despite all of his greatness the Wolves didn't make the jump forward many hoped they would. Their 31-51 record was only two games better than in 2015-16.
"I think there's been progress most definitely, but it's upsetting that we have come down the stretch at the end of our season with losses like this," Towns told ESPN this week. "I think we've worked tremendously hard to improve our team, and right now we're just not showing it. We've got things we've got to work on so next year we're ready."
