Byron Buxton injured sliding into 2nd base against Red Sox

It's not clear how severe Buxton's injury is.

Just seven games into the season and a $100 million contract and Byron Buxton is injured.

Buxton hit a leadoff double on a pop fly that the Red Sox defenders lost in the sun Friday afternoon, and after sliding feet first into second base he immediately slapped the dirt and walked off the field, covering his face in his helmet.

Nick Gordon replaced Buxton, who will be evaluated further. The limited information provided by the Twins so far is only that he left the game with "right knee soreness."

Buxton signed the seven-year, $100 million deal in late November 2021 despite playing over 100 games just once during his career. Last year injuries cut his season short, but when he was healthy he was able to set career highs in average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and home runs.

This is a developing story.
