Byron Buxton has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a hamstring issue.

The Twins made the move Friday and the move is retroactive to Aug. 2, meaning Buxton will be eligible to return on Aug. 12. However, it's likely that he'll be shut down for the next two weeks, according to Twins bench coach Jayce Tingler.

Buxton has played 84 games this season and this marks his second stint on the injured list. He was placed on the 10-day IL in early June to deal with a left rib contusion that he suffered when he was hit by a pitch.

He also barely participated in spring training because he was recovering from offseason knee surgery for an injury that ended his 2022 season after he played in just 90 games.

Jordan Luplow, a right-handed hitting outfielder who can also play first base, was claimed off waivers and has been added to the 40-man roster.

Meanwhile, right-handed reliever Brock Stewart has been moved to the 60-day injured list as he had a setback in his return from an arm injury.
