Byron Buxton replaces Alex Kirilloff on Twins’ playoff roster
The Twins have added Byron Buxton to their playoff roster for the remainder of the American League Divisional Series.
Major League Baseball approved the switch after Alex Kirilloff sustained an unspecified injury. Kiriloff is not be eligible to return for the ALCS if the Twins advance but would be available for the World Series.
Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said Kiriloff has been dealing with a shoulder injury that has affected his swing. Kiriloff, through six appearances, has hit just 1-13 with two walks and four strikeouts.
Buxton has not played a game for the Twins since August 1 when he injured his hamstring. He tweaked a knee in a rehab assignment at Triple-A St. Paul in early September. Before his injury in August, Buxton had been hitting .207/.294/.438 with 17 home runs and 42 RBI.
Buxton is not in the starting lineup for Game 4 Wednesday night but he is eligible to play. The Twins are down 2-1 to the Astros heading into Game 4 with the prospect of elimination if they lose Wednesday night.
