Correa ignites Twins in Detroit for 5th straight win
Carlos Correa hit an RBI double in the first inning and then smoked a three-run homer in the second inning to fuel the Twins to a 9-3 win over the Tigers in Detroit Monday night.
Correa's three-run homer was Minnesota's second of the night. Ryan Jeffers slugged a three-run bomb of his own in the Twins' four-run first inning, and Correa's shot gave the Twins a 7-0 lead after two innings.
That was plenty for Twins right-hander Pablo Lopez, who allowed five hits and struck out eight in seven scoreless innings. Brent Headrick pitched the eight and ninth innings, giving up a three-run homer to Nick Maton with two outs in the ninth inning in what would've otherwise been a shutout for the Twins.
The post-All-Star break schedule has been madness for Minnesota. They won nine of 11 games immediately after the break and then dropped five in a row before the current streak of five straight victories and six of seven overall. Add them all up and Minnesota is 15-8 since July 14.
The Twins are now 60-54 this season, equaling a season best six games over .500.
