Former Twin Scott Erickson charged in connection with fatal hit and run

The former Twins pitcher was street racing another driver when the incident occured.

Former Minnesota Twins pitcher Scott Erickson was charged this week with a misdemeanor count of reckless driving as part of a fatal hit and run in California.

According to the Los Angeles Daily News, Erickson was involved in a street race with Rebecca Grossman, when Grossman's vehicle struck and killed two boys in a crosswalk while walking with their parents on Sept. 29.

The two cars were reportedly driving at excessive speeds when Grossman hit the two boys, one of which died at the scene. Grossman allegedly continued to drive her car another quarter of a mile before her engine stopped running.

The incident, which happened in Westlake Villiage, resulted in Grossman being charged on Dec. 30 with two felony counts of murder and vehicular manslaughter. She was also charged with a felony count of hit and run driving that resulted in death.

The 57-year-old Grossman could face up to 34 years to life in prison if convicted.

Erickson was a 15-year MLB veteran and was part of the Twins' 1991 World Series Championship team. Erickson led the American League with 20 wins that season and finished runner-up to Roger Clemens in the AL Cy Young Award voting.

In six seasons with the Twins, Erickson went 61-60 with a 4.22 ERA.
