J.A. Happ's near no-no gets backed by turtle power
J.A. Happ carried a no-hitter into the eighth inning as the Minnesota Twins defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-0 on Friday night.
Happ was outstanding for the Twins as he was dominant from the opening pitch. Although he issued a pair of walks in the third inning, Happ held the Pirates hitless for 7.1 innings, allowing a double to Jacob Stallings in the eighth to end his no-hit bid.
While Happ silenced the Pirates' bats, the Twins took the lead with the long ball. Willians Astudillo hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third and Jake Cave followed up with another solo home run in the fifth.
After Happ's successful outing, the Twins turned to the bullpen with Tyler Duffey and Taylor Rogers securing the victory.
The Twins are now 7-11 on the season and will host the second game of the series with Pittsburgh on Saturday afternoon.
