Kepler plays hero in the longest game in Target Field history
In the longest game played in the history of Target Field, the Twins walked off the Boston Red Sox with a 4-3 win in the 17th inning in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
Max Kepler was the hero on three occasions, not only did he keep the game going with the tying-home run in the bottom of the 13th, but he delivered the game-winning hit four innings later, scoring Luis Arraez, ending the 5-hour, 45-minute affair.
It was the first walk-off win for the Twins this season.
The 17 innings makes it the longest game (by innings) and it's tied for the fourth-longest game (team record is 6 hours and 36 minutes in 1995) in Twins history by time.
The Red Sox got on the board first in the top of the fourth but the Twins tied things right back up with a C.J. Cron RBI single.
After the Red Sox regained the lead in the seventh, the Twins tied things up in the bottom of the eighth when Kepler roped an RBI single, scoring Garver, which sent the game to extra innings.
Catch of the year?
With two outs in the bottom of the seventh and his back turned to the ball, Jackie Bradley Jr. came down with this Jorge Polanco fly ball, robbing him of an extra-base hit.
With the win, the Twins improve to 48-24 on the season and will close out the series with the Red Sox on Wednesday, with the first pitch at 7:10 p.m.. Kyle Gibson will start for the Twins.
