Friday marks the 11th day Miguel Sano has been wearing a protective boot on his right foot to help a cut near his Achilles heal.

The Twins' original plan was to have Sano wear the boot for 7-10 days, but the club announced Thursday that Sano's recovery is taking longer than expected and he'll remain out of action until next week at the earliest.

"Yeah, it's a little frustrating, I would say," Sano said Thursday, via the Twins. "Because I worked really hard in the offseason to get to Spring Training in shape and ready to go, and now this happened. But it's just a setback and we'll get it going next week."

Sano suffered a laceration on the back of his foot during a championship parade with his winter ball team in the Dominican Republic. One of his teammates slipped on a stage and bumped into Sano, who fell into metal stairs and suffered a cut that required 12 stitches.

"As we sit here right now, I can’t say exactly what number of at-bats Miguel is going to get," said manager Rocco Baldelli, discussing when he thinks Sano will get into the lineup this spring.

Minnesota has already played seven spring exhibitions without Sano, and it'll be 10 games by the time next week rolls around. With the regular season opener now just four weeks away – Mar. 28 – Sano is losing valuable time to adequately prepare for the season.

Fortunately, it's just a cut and not a structural injury that could have long-term impacts. Once he's on the field he should be good to go.

Meanwhile, this is hilarious and you deserve to laugh just as we did.
