After a stretch where they weren't sure where the next run was coming from, the Twins unleashed a torrent of them at Target Field this weekend.

Dropping the opener against the Chicago Cubs 6-2 on Friday, the Twins responded with two weekend hammering, following up Saturday's 11-1 hammering with a 16-3 destruction on Sunday.

Joey Gallo followed up Saturday's monster bomb with another to right field, with the returning Trevor Larnach – recalled Saturday following Max Kepler's move to the IL – and Michael A. Taylor also going yard.

Kyle Farmer counted a double among his three hits, scoring two; and there were two-hit, two-RBI performances from Carlos Correa (including a double), Nick Gordon, and Christian Vazquez.

What also shouldn't be overlooked was the performance of starter Louie Varland, called up to fill the void left by injuries to Kenta Maede and Tyler Mahle, who logged a quality start. He struck out seven over his 6.1 innings, giving up three earned runs.

The Twins now move to 23-18, 3.5 games ahead of the Cleveland Guardians.

The Twins head to the West Coast on Monday, starting a tricky road series at the Los Angeles Dodgers. Pablo Lopez gets the start for the Twins against Noah Syndergaard.
