Twins blow 3-run lead for Opening Day defeat in Milwaukee
The Minnesota Twins started the 2021 season on a sour note losing in 10 innings to the Milwaukee Brewers 6-5 on Thursday afternoon.
Although Josh Donaldson exited in the first inning with tightness in his hamstring, the Twins took control of the game early with a pair of runs in the third inning.
Jake Cave scored the Twins' first run of the season off a wild pitch from Brandon Woodruff and Max Kepler extended the lead with an RBI single to score Miguel Sano and extend the lead to 2-0.
Although Travis Shaw cut into the lead with a bases-loaded walk in the bottom half of the inning, Luis Arraez brought the Twins' lead back to two runs with an RBI single of his own in the fourth inning.
Omar NarvΓ₯ez brought the Brewers within a run with an RBI single in the fifth inning but the Twins fortunes changed when Kepler led off the top of the seventh inning with a double.
With Kepler on second, Byron Buxton delivered the Twins' first home run of the season, cranking a 456-foot moonshot to put the Twins ahead 5-2.

Alex Colome entered the game with a three-run lead but things unraveled quickly. Christian Yelich laced a liner off Kepler's glove to cut the lead to 5-3 and Travis Shaw delivered a two-run double to tie the game at 5-5.
The Twins went down quietly in the top of the 10th and Orlando Arcia grounded into a fielder's choice to score Lorenzo Cain and give the Brewers an Opening Day victory.
The Twins (0-1) will have an off day on Friday before the second game of the series with the Brewers on Saturday night.
