Twins club 4 homers to beat the Royals at Target Field
The Bomba Squad got the Twins out of a tricky situation at Target Field to secure a victory that takes them yet another step closer to the playoffs.
Two bombs from Nelson Cruz, his 38th and 39th of the season, plus a solo shot from Mitch Garver and yet another 3rd-decker from Miguel Sano was enough to beat KC 8-5.
A poor outing by Kyle Gibson had put the Twins on the back foot, after he issued 2 bases loaded walks to put the Royals 3-0 up in the second.
Gibson was replaced after just 1.2 innings by Zack Littell, with the Twins going to the bullpen for the rest of the game.
But the Twins leaped into the lead in the bottom of the third, courtesy of a 3-run homer from Cruz, swiftly followed by a ludicrous hit from Sano.
Kansas City hit back, scoring in the 4th and the 5th off of Lewis Thorpe to retake the lead 5-4, before Garver and then Cruz had their say in the 5th and 7th, helping the Twins to a 3-run lead they would not relinquish.
Taylor Rogers came in for the save in the 9th, securing victory on a night that the Cleveland Indians also won.
It means the Twins are 4 games ahead with 9 games left to play.
