Twins games will be on AM and FM radio for the next 4 years
Minnesota Twins games will be returning to FM radio frequencies starting this season, but will still be available on AM dials.
After two years exclusively broadcast by WCCO 830-AM for the 2018 and 2019 seasons, a new deal has been struck that will keep broadcasts on 830, but will also be simulcast on 102.9-FM The Wolf.
If you're not familiar with it, The Wolf is a Twin Cities-based country music station owned by Entercom, and is a sister station of WCCO-AM.
In a press release, the Twins announced that they have entered into a 4-year partnership that will see coverage of games broadcast on both stations through the 2023 season.
Both 830 and 102.9 will air live broadcasts of all Twins spring training, regular season and postseason games, starting this Saturday when the Twins take on the Tigers in the Dominican Republic.
The statement notes that the Twins are now one of only four teams to have an FM and AM presence in their market area, and says that with a range of 150,000 watts, it will have "the most expansive flagship radio coverage of any team in Major League Baseball."
The Twins moved back to WCCO-AM for the 2018 season, having spent five seasons on FM dials at 96.3, part of the Go Radio network that is owned by the Pohlad family (who also own the Twins.)
Before that, it spent 6 years on AM radio at 1500-ESPN, now known as Skor North, having previously been with WCCO-AM for nearly 50 years.
Of the new deal, Twins president and CEO Dave St. Peter said: "We are thrilled to further extend our successful broadcast partnership with Entercom, while also bringing Twins baseball to a FM audience as a supplement to our metro flagship home on 830 WCCO.
"While WCCO is synonymous with Twins baseball, we are excited to ensure even greater access through our simulcast on 102.9 The Wolf. We applaud and thank Entercom leadership for their shared vision in making Twins radio broadcasts an industry leader.”
