Twins giving Gate 34 at Target Field a makeover
It'll provide more space, shade and entertainment options for fans.
Target Field will look a little bit different the next time you go to a Twins game.
The MLB club announced Thursday plans to reconstruct Gate 34 at Target Field. The new design will "enhance ingress and egress while creating a new must-visit destination for fans inside the revised gate line."
Some of the things they're changing outside the gate:
- Adding two gates to decrease congestion on the plaza.
- Expanding the canopy for more protection from the weather.
- Removing trees and plants and replacing them with green scape.
- Golden Glove statue is moving to the north end of the gates.
Those alterations will create an additional 9,300 square feet of new space inside the ballpark, which they'll use to add:
- 5,600 square feet of turf for fan activities.
- Seating, stand-up tables, lawn games.
- Kid-friendly play area.
- 2,800-square-foot structure with a canopy for shade/shelter.
- A new "Market" for autograph signings, food, beverage and entertainment.
Construction is already underway and will be done by the time the Twins open the season at home against Cleveland on March 28.
