Twins option top prospect Alex Kirilloff to minors
The Minnesota Twins optioned outfielder Alex Kirilloff to minor league camp on Tuesday afternoon.
Kirilloff was a favorite to replace Eddie Rosario in left field but struggled in spring training. The left-hander hit just .129 in the Grapefruit League but showed his power with a 420-foot home run against Boston's Eduardo Rodriguez on Mar. 11.
The 23-year-old is the top prospect in the Twins' system and 19th overall prospect in MLB according to Baseball America.
Kirilloff made his major league debut for the Twins last October in Game 2 of the Wild Card Series with the Houston Astros, collecting a single and making a sliding catch in right field.
With Kirilloff sent to the minors, Jake Cave and Brent Rooker will be the Twins options in left field.
