Twins pitchers decimated: 16 runs, 18 hits, 8 walks ... 4 strikeouts
The Minnesota Twins dropped another game in the American League Central on as the Chicago White Sox handed the Twins a 16-4 defeat on Monday night.
Even with the 12-run margin, the Twins were not competitive as the White Sox jumped all over starter J.A. Happ.
The right-hander was pummeled for six runs over 3.2 innings as the White Sox scored a pair of runs in the first. Rob Refsnyder chipped into the lead with an RBI double in the second but Nick Madrigal hit his first career home run in the bottom of the third.
Madrigal and Yoan Moncada added RBI doubles in the fourth inning and the game was blown open by a grand slam by Danny Mendick off Derek Law to give Chicago a 10-1 lead.
The White Sox eventually built a 14-1 lead before Josh Donaldson hit a two-run homer in the second inning. Although Jorge Polanco added an RBI single in the eighth, the main event of the night came with Willians Astudillo on the mound in the ninth inning.
But even with their ERA leader on the mound, things didn't go right for the Twins. Yermin Mercedes sent an eephus pitch from Astudillo into the bullpen to cap off a rough night at Target Field.
The Twins (13-26) will try to even their series with the White Sox on Tuesday night.
