The Chicago Cubs need a new television play-by-play announcer, and one name mentioned in a detailed breakdown about the job opening by The Athletic is Minnesota Twins radio voice Corey Provus.

Provus has led Twins broadcasts since taking over for John Gordon in 2012. As The Athletic points out, Provus has history with WGN, which serves as the TV and radio home of the Cubs.

"If the Cubs want a connection to their Ron Santo days – and a broadcaster who hasn’t quite reached that level of national stature yet – then Cory Provus would make sense. Provus worked with Santo and Pat Hughes on WGN Radio, moved to the Brewers Radio Network alongside Bob Uecker and then joined the Twins radio broadcast team in 2012."

To be sure, the Cubs are replacing Len Kasper, and the list of suitors to replace him is extensive. But Provus is a Chicago native who got his broadcasting career started in 2007 as the Cubs pre- and post-game host on WGN-AM. He also has experience doing television play-by-play for college football and basketball on Big Ten Network and FS1.

While Provus is the lead play-by-play announcer in Minnesota, he splits the duty with Twins great Dan Gladden. When one isn't handling the play-by-play, they are providing analysis.

The Twins Radio Network includes 81 stations and 106 signals throughout Minnesota, South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa and Wisconsin.
