Ryan Jeffers was the Twins' hero against the White Sox Sunday, but his 12th inning walk-off single followed a scary moment an inning earlier when he was the victim of a freak accident.

Catching for Griffin Jax in the top of the 11th, a pitch that was tipped hit the ground and bounced up, smacking Jeffers in the throat and chin.

He called the trainer over immediately, revealing a laceration to his tongue that needed a bit of attention.

Fortunately, Jeffers was able to continue and it's just as well he did, as he provided the crucial hit in the bottom of the 12th.
