Antoine Winfield Jr. says playoff win was "for my pops back in '09"
When Antoine Winfield Jr. was 11 years old, his father was a key part of one of the greatest Minnesota Vikings teams in franchise history. Antoine Winfield Sr. helped the Vikings get to the NFC Championship but ultimately lost to the New Orleans Saints to fall short of the Super Bowl.
11 years have passed since the infamous "Bountygate" game, but it appears that the younger Winfield has not forgotten about that loss.
After his Tampa Bay Buccaneers defeated the New Orleans Saints on Sunday, Winfield posted a video of his fourth-quarter strip of Jared Cook on his Instagram account saying that the win was "for his pops back in '09."
Winfield's forced fumble helped turn the game for the Buccaneers, who were down 20-13 when Cook put the ball on the turf. The play eventually led to the game-tying touchdown and catapulted the Bucs to a 30-20 win and a berth in next week's NFC Championship Game.
Vikings fans will now hope that Winfield has some more memories to avenge next week as the Bucs will head to Lambeau Field to take on the Green Bay Packers, a team that Winfield Sr. went 6-11 against during his career.
