Brett Favre thinks Aaron Rodgers won't finish career with Packers
Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre said he doesn't believe that Aaron Rodgers will finish his career with the Green Bay Packers after they traded up for Jordan Love in last week's NFL Draft.
During his appearance on Wednesday, Favre was asked if Rodgers' career could follow the same footsteps as Favre, who spent 16 seasons with the Packers before a messy divorce led him to finish his career with the Vikings.
"I think he'll play somewhere else," Favre said. I don't know this for certain, but I guarantee you, it's got the wheels turning in Aaron's mind. If that's the case, then that means there's a chip on his shoulder toward the organization that otherwise was not there."
Rumors have been flying about Rodgers' future with the Packers after they selected the Utah State quarterback with the 26th overall pick in the draft. Favre said that he had talked to Rodgers and the two-time MVP certainly wasn't expecting the team to draft a quarterback.
“I’m not going to talk about all that we talked," Favre said. "He was, let’s just say surprised, they went that direction.”
While Favre also mentioned it's not Rodgers' job to mentor Love, it's clear that the Packers view their new quarterback of the future of the franchise, which should lead to even more speculation.
ESPN's Dan Graziano mentioned earlier this week that there is "no chance" the Packers trade Rodgers prior to the 2020 season, but such a scenario could play in 2022 when Rodgers is entering his age-39 campaign and Love is entering the third year of his rookie deal with a looming decision on a fifth-year option in 2023.
That led Fox Sports Radio's Wil Leitner to throw out the Chicago Bears and NESN's Adam London to speculate the New England Patriots as a possible destination, but even the Vikings could be interested as they enter the final year of Kirk Cousins' contract in that same season.
"I think they burned a bridge that's going to be hard to overcome," Favre stated. "At some point, I think it will rear its ugly head."
