Charges: Housekeeping employee at hotel raped guest in her room
A hotel housekeeping employee is charged with raping a guest while she was in her room.
Nolasco Lopez Ramirez, a 25-year-old from St. Paul, is charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct, the Ramsey County Attorney's Office said Monday.
According to the criminal complaint:
Lopez Ramirez, the head of the housekeeping staff, knocked on the woman's door at
the Days Inn on University Avenue
around 4:20 p.m. Saturday, saying he was there to check the room.
The woman, who is 22, had an infant in the room with her and used a stroller to prop open the door.
When she went into the bathroom to get towels for him, he followed her in there and raped her, as she yelled for him to stop.
He then left, and the woman saw three members of the maid service, and screamed she'd been raped.
Lopez Ramirez was later arrested and identified by the woman as the culprit.
Other employees had said he'd been acting strange, and told them not to clean the woman's room because he'd do it.
While being interviewed by police, Lopez Ramirez said he drank a lot of alcohol during break at 3 p.m. and didn't remember meeting or raping the woman. Officers did not notice any signs he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the charges say.
When told he'd raped a woman, he said he didn't know if he did it, but "he didn't think he would do that." He also denied there was anyone at the hotel he wanted to have sex with.
Lopez Ramirez is charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct, and is due in court Tuesday. He faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $40,000 if convicted.
