Fans mock FanDuel over laughable Jefferson-to-Patriots trade proposal
The Vikings have started the season 0-2, and it's apparently causing national "experts" to go insane.
It's already prompted a flurry of "trade Kirk Cousins to the Jets" talk from a few major network pundits, irrespective of the fact that the Vikings are only a game back in the NFC North after all their rivals lost at the weekend.
The latest example of shameless engagement farming comes from FanDuel, which asks followers to discuss if the Vikings – who "might need to hit the reset button" – should consider trading Justin Jefferson to the New England Patriots who ... um ... are also 0-2.
And what would they get back? A 1st-round draft pick in both 2024 and 2025, and a 2024 3rd rounder.
Who says no? Oh I don't know, anyone but Patriots fans?
Sure, the Vikings and Jefferson weren't able to come to terms on an extension before the season began but he's under team control through the end of 2024 and the Vikings reportedly want to make a deal after this season is done.
If that weren't to happen then you're looking at the biggest deal ever made for a wide receiver.
The most recent examples of big WR trades are Tyreek Hill to the Dolphins for a 1st, a 2nd, two 4ths and a 6th-round pick from the Kansas City Chiefs, and Davante Adams to the Raiders with Green Bay getting a 1st- and a 2nd-round pick – albeit with the Packers under the threat of Adams refusing to play under the franchise tag.
Jefferson is several years younger than Hill and Adams when they were traded and is well on his way to becoming one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history – so two 1sts and a 2nd is crazy light.
You know who else would say no? Um probably Justin Jefferson? If he's going to leave Minnesota then you'd think he'd be angling to link up with a slightly more established QB than Mac Jones – think Randy Moss moving to New England to play with Tom Brady.
Anyway, needless to say not many people thought the proposed trade was such a good idea, even sparking a Vikings subreddit discussion post that described it as "disgusting work by the Fanduel social media team."
