Vikings receiver Jordan Addison told state troopers the reason he was driving 140 mph in a 55 mph zone in the Twin Cities last week was due to an emergency with his dog, according to a citation filed Monday.

"Driver stated his dog was having an emergency at his residence and that was the reason for his speed,” reads the citation. Addison has been cited for reckless driving while "consciously disregarding a substantial or unjustifiable risk."

Addison was clocked going 140 miles per hour on Interstate 94 in his 2021 Lamborghini Urus SUV late last week.

The 21-year-old receiver issued an apology saying: "Yesterday morning I made a mistake and used poor judgment. I recognize and own that. I am going to learn from this and not repeat the behavior. I am truly sorry."

The Vikings selected Addison with the 23rd overall pick in the first-round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Addison did not practice in Vikings OTA's and minicamp after suffering an undisclosed injury in rookie minicamp.

Addison reported Sunday to Vikings training camp along with other rookies, veterans report Tuesday with the first training camp practice starting Wednesday
