Late score drops Vikings in Seattle
The Minnesota Vikings got off to a great start in Seattle, but a 21-0 run in the third quarter and a clutch drive by Russell Wilson sent the Vikings to a 27-26 loss to the Seahawks on Sunday night.
The Vikings started off with a surprising effort on the defensive end and a ball-control approach on offense. Minnesota drove down the field on its first drive of the game, taking the early lead with an eight-yard touchdown run by Dalvin Cook.
With the touchdown lead, the Vikings defense suffocated Wilson and went into the locker room with a 13-0 advantage after a pair of Dan Bailey field goals.
The game seemed to turn in the second half once Cook exited with a groin injury. With Cook out of the game, the Seahawks had a second life and Wilson was more than willing to take advantage with a pair of touchdown passes.
After Wilson found Will Dissly and D.K. Metcalf for scores, a 29-yard run by Chris Carson put the Seahawks up 21-13 midway through the third quarter.
The Vikings responded with a pair of touchdown strikes from Kirk Cousins to Adam Thielen. The first brought the Vikings within 21-19 after a failed two-point conversion and the second gave Minnesota a 26-21 lead with 7:08 remaining in the fourth quarter.
An interception by Eric Wilson gave Minnesota the ball with 5:45 remaining and tried to ride their running game to the finish line. Mattison totaled 112 yards in relief of Cook but came up short on a fourth-and-inches to give Seattle a last chance.
Wilson drove the Seahawks down to the Vikings' goal line and fired a laser to Metcalf on fourth-and-goal to give Seattle the 27-26 victory.
The Vikings fall to 1-4 with the loss and will host 0-5 Atlanta next Sunday.
