The Minnesota Vikings are in the process of trimming their roster from 75 down to 53.

With the preseason over, the Vikings have to be down to 53 active players on their roster by 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Some of the first reductions came to players with NFL experience – including safety Shaun Prater, who had spent the last two seasons with Minnesota.

Running back DuJuan Harris was also waived by the Vikings, Friday afternoon. Harris, 27, has also spent some time as a backup running back and return man for the Green Bay Packers. His agent, Andy Simms, tells the Pioneer Press that Harris is a candidate for the practice squad.

"There is definitely interest from (the Vikings)," Simms tells the newspaper. "They like him. Even though he's been around for awhile, he still is eligible for the practice quad with the rules. I think it's a possibility, but we're going to look around."

The Vikings have also released:

  • WR Donte Foster
  • DE Leon Mackey
  • G Bobby Vardaro
  • CB Josh Thomas
  • CB Justin Coleman
  • WR DaVaris Daniels
  • DT Chigbo Anunoby

According 1500 ESPN, defensive end Justin Trattou has been told that he will be on the 53 man roster.

The Star Tribune reports the Vikings are expected to make the cuts official on Saturday as the team continues to monitor other teams' activities ahead of the deadline.
