Report: Giants interview Vikings' Daronte Jones for defensive coordinator job

The New York Giants conducted an interview with Vikings defensive backs coach Daronte Jones for their vacant defensive coordinator position, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Jones, 45, has been the Vikings’ defensive backs coach for the past two seasons and was also the team’s defensive backs coach in 2020. According to Pelissero, the Giants conducted an interview with him last week in Mobile, Ala., where Jones impressed them as the National Team’s defensive coordinator at the Senior Bowl.
Safety has been a position of strength for the Vikings under Jones, who has helped develop the likes of Cam Bynum and Josh Metellus, who was a jack of all trades for Minnesota last season. He’s also coached longtime staple Harrison Smith.
Jones previously had stints with the Cincinnati Bengals and Miami Dolphins in the NFL as well as roles with Wisconsin, UCLA, Bowie State and LSU on the collegiate level. The Capital Heights, Md., native played four seasons as a defensive back at Morgan State and graduated with his bachelor’s degree in 2001.
