Aaron Jones is drawing interest from the Minnesota Vikings after the running back was released by the Green Bay Packers on Monday.

That's according to The Athletic's Matt Schneidman and Dianna Russini, who citing sources say the Vikings "have shown interest" in the 29-year-old rusher.

The Vikings have a hole at running back after releasing Alexander Mattison earlier this month, with Ty Chandler currently the No. 1 option. Jones meanwhile is looking for a new team after the Packers signed former Raiders RB Josh Jacobs on the opening day of free agency.

It was initially thought that the Packers would proceed with a formidable one-two punch of Jones and Jacobs at running back, but the Athletic reports Jones wasn't willing to take another pay cut after he took a $5 million cut last season.

Although his 2023 campaign was plagued by injury, Jones was still highly efficient when he did play despite his advancing years, rushing for more than 100 yards in each of the Packers' final three regular season games and both their playoff games.

He's also proven to offer a dual threat as a pass catcher during his career in Green Bay.

Having a talent like Jones' in the backfield would make life much easier for the Minnesota Vikings' next quarterback, whomever that turns out to be.
