Report: Vikings, Justin Jefferson contract talks to resume AFTER the 2023 season
Despite efforts to reach a deal before Sunday's opening game, the Vikings and star wide receiver Justin Jefferson aren't expected to get it done.
ESPN's Adam Schefter says that Jefferson is not expected to sign a contract extension before the Tampa Bay game, and that the plan is to now "revisit after the season."
Schefter says "both sides made a strong effort to get a deal done."
Jefferson is expected to command a record-breaking figure for a wide receiver, and potentially for a non-quarterback player, when a deal is eventually signed.
If it is indeed the case that the Vikings and Jefferson won't resume talks until after the season, it could mean nervy times for Vikings fans to see if they'll hold on to the NFL's best receiver in what could be an offseason of major changes for the offense, with quarterback Kirk Cousins' contract set to expire.
