Report: Vikings make Danielle Hunter available for trade
Danielle Hunter is being made available in the trade market by the Minnesota Vikings, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, whose connections with the Vikings run deep dating back to his days as a beat reporter covering the Vikings for the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
Fowler reported Saturday: "The Vikings have evaluated trade options for Danielle Hunter in light of his ongoing unhappiness with his contract, with sources from multiple teams saying Minnesota has made the former Pro Bowler available."
Hunter, due to make $4.9 million this season, is being paid well below market value and is fresh off a healthy 2022 season in which he produced 10.5 sacks while switching to an outside linebacker role for the first time in his career.
Hunter skipped OTAs and minicamp and although he has reported for training camp, he is not practicing, making him a camp "hold in."
"There's a lot of things we're trying to work through with Danielle," said Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah on Tuesday. "We haven't seen him since last season, so that amongst many other issues that we're trying to work through with his representatives, those conversations are ongoing"
Asked specifically if he thinks Hunter will play for the Vikings this season, Adofo-Mensah answered: "I'm really excited to see him. It's great to see a great player like that. Great Viking. Really excited, so I just want to make sure I say that. That's where I'm at right now."
