Major news to start the first Friday of the new NFL league year as the Minnesota Vikings have acquired the No. 23 overall pick in the NFL Draft from the Houston Texans.

That's the word from Ben Goessling of the Star Tribune. Here's the deal:

  • Vikings receive: No. 23 and No. 232 in 2024
  • Texans receive: No. 42 and No. 188 in 2024 and a 2025 second-round pick

The Vikings now have picks No. 11 and No. 23 in the first round. Will they use the picks to move up into the top five and select a franchise quarterback?

Minnesota is now without second- and third-round picks in this year's draft. Here are their scheduled picks.

  • 1st round: 11th overall
  • 1st round: 23rd overall
  • 4th round: 108th overall
  • 4th round: 129th overall
  • 5th round: 157th overall
  • 5th round: 167th overall
  • 6th round: 177th overall
  • 7th round: 230th overall

"I don't think there's much mystery here. The Vikings are not toying around with their future at quarterback," Purple Insider's Matthew Coller told Bring Me The Sports when asked for reaction to the trade.

"They are moving heaven and earth to get up to the top of the draft to take their guy so we should expect to see another move soon."

This is a developing story.
