Saints' Cameron Jordan throws more shade at Kirk Cousins
One of the biggest storylines coming into the Minnesota Vikings' NFC wild-card matchup with the New Orleans Saints is whether quarterback Kirk Cousins can finally win the big game.
The last time we saw the Vikings quarterback, he was portraying the trademark big game grimace on national television as he threw for just 122 yards, a touchdown and an interception against the Green Bay Packers.
After another disastrous performance that dropped him to 0-9 on Monday Night Football, the entire nation seemed to jump off the Vikings' bandwagon, including Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan – the son of former Vikings tight end Steve Jordan.
As a guest on "The Rich Eisen Show" earlier this week, Eisen asked Jordan about which version of Vikings running back Dalvin Cook he would see on Sunday. Whether Jordan's cellphone reception was bad or he just misheard the question, Jordan took a hard right turn and asked Eisen which version of Cousins the Saints would see.
Jordan: "At times he looks to be a very proficient quarterback."
Eisen: "And others, not so much. Is that what you're saying?"
Jordan: "Um, I'm going to stick to the first statement."
Jordan also went on to say that the Minneapolis Miracle was "three or four quarterbacks ago" and that the Saints would be facing a completely different team on Sunday, perhaps dumping even more fuel on a playoff rivalry that has been burning for the past decade beginning with the Vikings' loss to New Orleans in the 2009 NFC Championship.
While Jordan did compliment the Vikings for doing a great job of getting Cousins' confidence built early in games, the comments against Minnesota have followed the pattern that has been established this week.
First, the NFL forgot to put the Vikings in their playoff hype video and as a 7.5-point underdog, the Vikings are the biggest 'dogs of wild-card weekend.
What the Vikings do have going for them is Cousins' previous track record against the Saints. While Jordan has jokes, Cousins has performed well against New Orleans, throwing for 335 yards per game with nine touchdowns and one interception in three career starts (all with Jordan on the team).
The last time Cousins was criticized by an opposing player before a game also didn't go well as Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Zack Brown called Cousins the "weakest part" of the Vikings offense prior to their Week 6 matchup. Cousins responded by throwing for 333 yards, four touchdowns and an interception in a 38-20 win and Brown was released the following day.
Hopefully, "Angry Kirk" can find his way to the Superdome on Sunday and put Jordan's comments (and all the other negative narratives) to rest for at least a week.
