Should the Vikings be concerned about Miami QB Skylar Thompson?
Skylar Thompson is expected to start at quarterback fro the Miami Dolphins against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, which is probably why the Vikings are favored by 3.5 points.
Is Thompson good? Does he pose the same kind of threat that backups like Cooper Rush, Chase Daniel and Matt Moore did when they led their teams to upset wins over the Vikings in recent years?
"Skylar Thompson had a really, really tough go off the bench. He only averaged 5 yards per attempt," Purple Insider's Matthew Coller said of Thompson's performance last week against the Jets. "If you go back to his preseason, if you're looking for any reason to be worried about Skylar Thompson, he was absolutely terrific."
Thompson threw 5 touchdowns and averaged more than 9 yards per pass attempt in the preseason, but that was against third-string defenders and guys who aren't on NFL rosters now.
"It's not impossible to win with a QB3. What it comes down to for the Vikings is being able to slow down the quick passing game to Jaylen Waddle and to Tyreek Hill," Coller said. "Skylar Thompson is taking over a situation with some great weapons against a Vikings team that has been spotty. But with all that said, there is no reason the Vikings should not be able to slow down a QB3 who was drafted in the seventh round."
