Stefon Diggs sends tweet, Vikings fans lose minds
When the Minnesota Vikings selected Zach Davidson with the 168th overall pick of the NFL Draft, it closed the book on the Stefon Diggs trade. The deal saw the Buffalo Bills give up a total of four draft picks to acquire Diggs and with the trade completed, Buffalo GM Brandon Beane expressed relief.
"I'm finally done paying for Stefon Diggs," Beane told CBS Sports' Jeff Kerr after the draft. "Glad it's over."
Not one to hide his opinions, Diggs took to Twitter to express his gratitude to Beane for taking the risk to bring him to Buffalo.
Diggs' thank you prompted several Vikings fans to voice their displeasure and mention the centerpiece of that trade, Justin Jefferson.
While Diggs ranks in the top 10 in franchise history in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns and caught the "Minneapolis Miracle," his departure from Minnesota was a messy one.
Diggs disagreed with Mike Zimmer's offensive philosophy prior to the 2019 season and even skipped a practice after a loss to the Chicago Bears. After a series of cryptic tweets, Diggs was sent to Buffalo where he led the NFL in receptions (127) and receiving yards (1,535) last season on the way to the AFC Championship Game.
The Vikings came out well in the trade by taking Jefferson with the 22nd overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Jefferson set several Vikings and NFL records during his rookie season and finished second in the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year voting.
Although Jefferson is younger and cheaper than Diggs, both teams got what they wanted in the trade. Both sides can take solace in this until Diggs tweets again.
