Vikings confirm 'whiteout' game against Lions on Christmas Eve

Vikings will host a winter whiteout for the second straight Christmas Eve

The highly popular "winter whiteout" is coming back to U.S. Bank Stadium when the Vikings host the Detroit Lions on Christmas Eve.

The team confirmed Wednesday that for the second straight season they will be wearing their typical all-white road uniforms for a late season home game. Fans are also asked to wear white as part of the winter whiteout look.

Last season the Vikings debuted the winter whiteout in a thrilling 27-24 win over the Giants in the last home game of the season. Minnesota put together an 8-play, 33-yard drive with the score tied 24-24 to set up Greg Joseph's 61-yard game-winning field goal as time expired.

Outside of the all-white uniforms and fans wearing white the team had a pair of field adjustments to go along with the theme:

  • The team's logo at midfield was altered to be all white with a few touches of purple
  • The end zone colors were reversed to have a narrow purple border and purple text with a white base color

Minnesota are set to host the NFC North leading Lions for this year's whiteout game, the first of two meeting over the final three weeks of the season between the sides.
