Vikings restructure Brian O'Neill's contract, creating $10M cap space
The Minnesota Vikings restructured right tackle Brian O'Neill's contract on the eve of the new season, creating $9.99 million in extra cap space.
The move was reported by ESPN insider Field Yates on Tuesday, revealing the Vikings made a move to create some additional wiggle room.
The question is why they did this. At the time, the Vikings were reportedly negotiating with wide receiver Justin Jefferson about a new contract – only to fail to reach a deal before the new season started, with Adam Schefter reporting the plan is to resume talks after the season ends.
Another player that has been heavily linked is offensive lineman Dalton Risner, who visited the Vikings this past offseason, and whose services could be required after a tough first game for the Vikings O-line.
Matthew Coller, of Purple Insider for Bring Me The Sports, said of the cap move: "It's totally possible that it does mean something. I don't know for sure but that's a lot of space to create."
