The 2023 Minnesota Vikings season opener has an added level of flare after the team unveiled "The Vikings Classic" uniforms players will wear when they take the field for the season and home opener Sept. 10 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

"Inspired by the 1960s and 70s, the throwback pays homage to the team's earlier voyages with a deeper purple and larger, gold-trimmed numbers than the modern jersey, as well as retro sleeve stripes," the Vikings announced Tuesday.

"The team will have the option to wear the uniforms each season moving forward."

The horn on the helmet will also be adjusted to better match the throwback style, in addition to having a gray face mask.

The new jerseys are a modified version of the ones players wore from the 1960s and '70s, like the one Vikings great Fran Tarkenton is wearing in the image below.
