Cris Carter's career as a television broadcaster appears to be up in the air after failing to appear on his regular show "First Things First" on FOX Sports.

The Hall of Fame Vikings wide receiver didn't appear on episodes of the sports talk show Thursday, Friday and Monday, and the New York Post is reporting that Carter's absence could be permanent.

The Big Lead was the first to report on Carter's sudden disappearance from the show, saying Carter will not return while FOX is involved in an ongoing investigation.

Front Office Sports cites a source that claims Carter had a "bad" blowup with FOX Sports leadership regarding the TV network not including him in its coverage of Thursday Night Football

Former players with big roles on Thursday Night Football include former tight ends Tony Gonzalez and Rob Gronkowski, while ex-New York Giants player Chris Canty has filled in for Carter on "First Things First."

FOX has yet to address why Carter has been absent.

Carter joined FOX Sports in 2016 after working with ESPN for nearly a decade. He played for the Vikings from 1990-2001 and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013.
